piano | viola/voice | double bass

New works for piano, viola and bass interwoven with spoken word, voice and groove. A compelling and complex aural journey. Amadis Lacheta - piano, Myfanwy Alderson - viola/voice, Shannon Birchall - double bass.

Daquqi (da-koo-ki) have performed with contemporary dancers, shadow puppeteers and with their own visual imagery at festivals and venues across Melbourne and Australia. Jazz, Improvisation, World and Contemporary Classical elements merge within a distinct cinematic feel. Aside from original compositions, they also perform interpretations of rare pieces by Tunisian oud player and composer Anouar Brahem, Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla, and the transcendent music of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

Their second album 'The Lift Equation' (released July 2010) was launched at Guildford Lane Gallery, Melbourne CBD with Peter Knight (Way Out West) on trumpet. Pieces from 'The Lift Equation' span a broad emotional vocabulary - the mesmeric pulse and groove of city lights glistening in the rain on the road; the soaring intensity of the wonder and struggles of flight; long night drives on desert highways.
Daquqi perform in intimate venues wherever a good piano can be found. A grand is always lovely, but a nice upright will do.
